About Duffield

Welcome to Duffield - in the heart of England.

So what makes Duffield so appealing? Maybe it is the unique and historical past. The remains of the Norman Keep is much loved by locals and has now been adopted by the National Trust. To really interact with history the recently restored railway line between Duffield and Wirksworth promises a steam train experience not to be missed.

Duffield may be rich with heritage but also offers all the conveniences and facilities of modern living. On entering the village you'll find a variety of shops and services, banks, a building society, newsagents, supermarket and a Post Office on the main high street. The brand new doctors surgery and medical centre together with an optician and dentist also offer peace of mind.

Parents are particularly attracted to Duffield by its outstanding schools. The Ecclesbourne Secondary School, William Gilbert Endowed Primary School and The Meadows County Primary School are all high achieving schools.

Numerous restaurants, bars and coffee shops in the village provide ideal places to meet up with friends or just simply relax. Then there's the art gallery, an interior design shop, an antiques shop and two excellent delicatessens with some great locally sourced dishes. Duffield really is a completely self-sufficient village!

In the village itself there is an excellent range of amenities. For sporting activities there is a tennis club, a squash club and a cricket club. The Chevin Golf Club has a highly renowned 18 hole course. The local area has great walks and cycle routes through the glorious countryside. On a less active but equally sociable level, there are musical interest groups such as The Derwent Valley Wind Band and the Duffield Singers. The village hosts an annual carnival and has an active community association. Bell ringing is also available at one of the five local churches!

Duffield's railway station provides an excellent service to take you directly to Nottingham and is seven minutes from Derby. Once there you'll find yourself just 90 minutes from London St Pancras, where you can now board a Eurostar train directly to Paris or Brussels.
