Working on behalf of Ashley House Plc, Carter Construction was appointed as the Main Contractor for the construction of a new Doctor’s Surgery and PCT Unit.

The construction incorporated the management of very difficult existing site conditions, with partial fill on top of demolished buildings and an imported structural batter to maintain, to support adjacent road. Foundations incorporated a combination of driven and drilled CFA piles, a cast in-situ main structural beam and a 4m high waterproof concrete retaining wall, to create the site level step. Main building was then built off a pre-cast beam system, with beam and block floors, concrete stairs and traditional masonry and roof construction. Externally, there was extensive use of Gabion Basket retaining walls, and an 80m3 Stormwater attenuation tank and Hydrobrake. Internally – under-floor heating throughout, to ensure optimum performance,

Working on behalf of Healthtrak UK, Carter Construction was appointed as the Principal Contractor for the construction of a new Medical Centre and Pharmacy.

The project contained two phases. Phase one was the construction of a new Medical Centre, on a ‘green field’ site in Lichfield. The construction works incorporated an initial cut and fill exercise, to correct the site levels, oversize foundations to overcome ground conditions, and then a structural ground floor slab. 1st floor formed from Acast Permanent concrete formwork and structural in-situ slab, with a complex 2-storey steel frame forming an unusual wing roof. Internally, the Centre was divided between the new Doctors Surgery, and the PCT/District Nurse Centre. External works incorporated a separated drainage system, with pumped stormwater solution, into a main attenuation system.

Phase two was the construction of a separate Pharmacy Building, with extended car-park. The construction works incorporated the shell construction of a traditional masonry building.

The construction incorporated the demolition of an existing health centre, the formation of new approach road/ public highway and a new two storey health care centre servicing an eight doctor practice, PCT, district nursing and minor operations.

Masonry construction with special details in facades and a beam and block first floor. Underfloor heating throughout, two lifts, air conditioning to select areas, extensive car parks and overall site landscaping. The project also included a new approach road and highway connection, where we incorporated an adjacent additional client (the Local Authourity with regards to The School) and provided new roads and child drop off parking areas.

The construction incorporated specialist site clearance of contaminated ground, complex piled foundation with ground beams and a two store health care centre to accommodate a four doctor practice, plus PCT. Externally the project included adapting the existing highway, and providing additional car parking for the adjacent leisure centre.
